business checks

The choices for business checks are many. First there are three to a page checks that are used in a seven (or sometimes three) ring check binder. Some have one stub to the left of the check; some have two stubs. The double stub ones are generally used for disbursements and payroll while the single stub versions are for just disbursements (bill paying). There are also manual checks called one write or pegboard checks. These types of checks have a sensitized strip or strips across the back of the check that interact with a sensitized coating on the face of a journal. Both the journal and the checks are held onto a folding pegboard by small punched holes on both the checks and the journals. The checks come shingled together in groups of 20 or 25 depending on the system and when you line the top check up with the top open line on the journal, all the other checks line up with successive lines on the journal. There are different manufacturers of these and some have different shaped pegs. All the parts of these systems need to work together. If you look at what’s available on the www.CheckChecks.com web page and are confused, just call and you will get excellent help and advice. The third type of manual check used by some businesses is called a voucher check or a snap-out check. (QuickBooks, a popular software program, also has a laser or inkjet check that they call a voucher check so don’t get confused.) A manual voucher check will usually come in two or three parts and has a perforated stub at the top. They are either handwritten or used in a typewriter (remember typewriters?). The check is just under the stub perforation and below the check is a second perforation with the voucher portion below that. These may sound like antiques but there are some very sophisticated companies that still use them.
